Smack (Small Acts of Kindness)
Luis Elvira-Sierra

We erected a fence
an immaculate
shiny brand new fence
to avoid them coming here
                  where we are
but we could see them through

(they were asking for help)

then we decided to build a wall
but still
we could hear their voices

(they were asking for help)

so with democratic resolution
we sent them back
we didn´t care if their countries
were starving or burning
                 under the bombs
Those bombs
with the made in
(Fill the blank space
with a well known name)
                     stamp
that didn´t stop them either

(they were asking for help)

then when the war
was knocking on our door

we also asked for help

and there was no one
                  to answer
