You, back there
Mehdi Hamisi

Travel.
You will meet different people
and understand the meaning of humanity

You will know that we are neither the best nor the most ancient people in the world
You will discover the lies of 6000 years of civilisation
And you will find that your country is yellow and not green

You will find out that ours, is an undeserving nation
A burden to humanity
You will learn there is no time, energy or desire for the West to conspire against us
They don’t have to
We master the conspiracy against each other

You will be surprised by the kindness of the taxi driver, a policeman, a worker at the airport or the bartender.
Yes, they strive to earn money, but they are not greedy for bribery

You will share mugs with a stranger in a restaurant or a café
and exchange smiles with a beautiful woman that doesn’t see you with
desire and expectations unwanted

You will learn to respect others in order to gain their respect
and be ashamed for things you used to do as axioms in your country

Oh, you will miss your family, friends and a lot of things
but you will never wish to come back.
And if you return, you will do so as a visitor
or a dead one for sure

And you, over here,
Do not blame someone who emigrates, if it was a homeland, he would not have left it

Mehdi Hamisi is a Syrian refugee who now lives in Turkey. Mehdi was born in Damascus, likes theatre, reading books, poetry, and making people happy.
