The Boiling Bed and the Frozen Surface
Mohammed Ash

My eyes are resting, but my body is
seething.
I hope it’s going to be a short battle
tonight.

Trauma is welcoming these intruders in my brain
and I have to defend it,
but sadness
and fear
are spreading all over
my spirit.

I can see shadows that I recognize,
the longing ones
and the monstrous.
Their memories are pulling me
towards sorrow and gloominess.
I’m suffocating in stress and I need some tone to reset
my galaxy.

My body is ready for the aftermath,
the cold wintry limbs, the blurry eyes,
and the numb ocean pouring
underneath my bed.

Mohammed Ash (he/him) is a writer & artist, born and raised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 1997. He’s interested in animation, music, politics and makeup. Mohammed studied Psychology in King Abdulaziz University for four years but due to his sexuality he couldn’t finish his education and became a refugee at 22. He’s been in the UK for two years and wants to become a mental health nurse in the near future.
