We invite refugee, asylum seeker, and immigrant poets from around the world to submit their poetry for our other tongue, mother tongue issue. This edition celebrates linguistic diversity by featuring poetry written in any language, presented along English translations.
Eligibility: Open to refugee, asylum seeker, and immigrant poets worldwide. Languages: Poetry in any language except English. Please state in English the language your poems are written in. Payment: We offer payment to all accepted contributors. Each year we have to apply for funding. If our funding bid is unsuccessful, we offer £50 per published poet; if successful, we offer £200. Contributors will also receive one complimentary copy of the issue in which their work appears. Payments are made via PayPal (worldwide) or into UK bank accounts. Due to high international transaction fees, we cannot transfer fees into non-UK bank accounts. From 2024, all issues will be published both in print and online. Theme: There is no theme; you don’t have to send us work that relates to the refugee or immigrant experience. Send us up to two poems written in your own language. File Format: Please send us your poetry in a single Word document or in the body of the email. Please avoid sending online file links. If your poem is selected for publication, you can self-translate it or a member of our Translations Advisory Group will translate it into English. Our advisory group covers the following languages: Africaans, Albanian, Arabic, Bangla, Belarusian, Bosnian, Cantonese, Chechen, ChiShona, Croatian, Danish, Dholuo, Dutch, Estonian, Eʋe, Filipino, Finnish, French, Frisian, Georgian, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Hiligaynon, Hungarian, Igbo, Indonesian, Ingush, Italian, Jamaican Creole, Japanese, Khmer, Kiikamba, Kikuyu, Kinaray-a, Konkani, Kurdish, Malay, Maltese, Mandarin, Marathi, Mauritian Creole, Montenegrin, Nigerian Pidgin English, Pahari, Pashto, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Punjabi in Urdu script, Rohingya, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Setswana, SiNdebele, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tamil, Tatar, Tigrinya, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Vietnamese, Yoruba.
