Walking from Blackfriars
by members of Young Roots and Refugee Council Young Women’s Group
We smell many perfumes worn by
different people walking past.
We hear people talking as they wander,
the sound of a busker playing guitar
and the river’s waves.
We feel sunshine warm on our skin
fighting against the cold wind blowing.
We see boats on the river Thames
and tall, modern buildings.
It makes me think of the river Rhine in Germany.
It makes me think of the Blue Nile
from my country, Sudan
that I’d love to see one day.
We see amber leaves float down
like nature’s confetti
making us feel warm.
We see white clouds decorate the blue sky
like a beautiful garden copied in the water.
Now there are two pictures the same.
The clouds move across the sky
and my feelings move too.
I am alive.
Sadness disappears
and I feel happy here.
